V. Leyla Gencer Voice Competition

Ended with a Magnificent Final Concert

The final and the award ceremony of the V. Leyla Gencer Voice Competition were held Saturday, August 30th, at Hagia Eirene Museum. At the final round 7 finalists, previously selected at the semi-final on Thursday, August 28th, presented the audience a musical feast.

The first price of this year’s Leyla Gencer Voice Competition went to Nazlı Deniz Boran (soprano / Turkey), the second price went to Kishani Jayasinghe (soprano / Sri Lanka) and the third price was shared by Eung Kwang Lee (baritone / Korea) and Anita Rachvelishvili (mezzo-soprano / Georgia). »»

Farewell to Leyla Gencer

Leyla Gencer, one of the greatest sopranos of the 20th Century passed away. Her ashes were scattered over the Bosphorus with a ceremony held next to the Dolmabahçe Palace. Hailed as "La Diva Turca" in the classical music world for decades, the ceremony held for Gencer began with the arrival of the Süreyya boat carrying her ashes at the Dolmabahçe Shore. »»
